The antecedents to Ironstate Development are found in the Applied Housing Company formed in 1970 by Joseph Barry and Walter Barry. The Company’s earliest undertakings focused on the redevelopment and revitalization of New Jersey’s urban centers. Throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s, under the direction of Joseph Barry, the company rehabilitated thousands of units of rental apartments for low and moderate income residents and earned an enviable reputation by transforming crumbling tenements and obsolete factories into attractive productive residences. Applied’s work has been acknowledged as a national model for innovation in the rehabilitation and management of urban development. The Company has been credited not just with improving individual buildings, but with the revitalization of entire communities.
Based on these successful development experiences, the Company recognized that successful revitalization of urban centers requires the development of quality, market-rate housing along with retail services to attract new residents with disposable income to downtown areas. With that core strategy, the Company capitalized on many opportunities in the marketplace, dramatically increasing the size and scope of its development endeavors (notable acquisition including the Shipyards in Hoboken, Port Libertè in Jersey City, and key redevelopment projects in Morristown and New Brunswick). Building upon the experiences and foundations of Applied, David Barry and Michael Barry formed Ironstate Development Company in 2001. Ironstate Development Company is a fully diverse real estate firm developing an extensive range of luxury rental apartments, condominiums, hotels, retail, recreational and commercial ventures. Innovation, combined with the experience and ability to successfully develop, build and manage large, complex real estate ventures without fail, has earned the Company the reputation of expert, able to complete the most challenging of projects, often in ways never imagined. |
